Extra Credit

These are some shots of my little sister and little cousin with their teddy bears. My little cousin is wearing a mask to show that adults are not the only people that hide behind a mask. Little children also hide behind their own masks, and they have their own different personalities when it comes to different types of people: whether they are the same age, parents, or children younger than them. They all have a different personality. I just wanted to upload these here, for free time whenever I shoot randomly and extra credit please! =)

Group Photo

Describe: For this group, I see four models holding a video equipment such as a clipboard, headphones, videocamera, and microphone. The picture is taken indoors with a white background. I did not know what to do at first, and I was trying to find where to shoot around the school, so i was walking around looking for a place to shoot for inspiration, but ended up not finding any. When I was at home, I realized that I had friends that took video 1st period, and so I ended up asking them for help with my photo.

Analyze: The tone of the picture is not dark or not too light. It is just right with a simple backdrop. I wanted everything to be focused to show the art of the video production.

Interpret: I wanted to show what equipment is needed in order to properly have a great video shoot. By having the props and the models interacting with the equipment, I was able to capture the things that are needed in order to properly come up with a video using the equipment. Each equipment is needed to make a good video.

Judge: I thought that this shoot was successful even though I was not planning on doing anything about video production. I was able to gather people that had k-Arts and was able to use them for the shoot, so it would seem real that these people knew what they were doing with the equipment. It was hard trying to get the angles correctly until I got this shot which was straight ahead, yet it works!

Different Setting Shot

Describe: This is an image of Melissa in the wall ball courts in the back of the school. I wanted to try a different setting instead of always using the studio, so I went outside and went to the PE Area where I saw the numbers and thought that it would be a pretty cool shot using those numbers.
Analyze: There are a lot of lines in the picture and the numbers are all lined up. The image is all in focus because I wanted to show all the shapes and lines that are in the background. Not only focus on the model, but also the background. It was done intentionally.
Interpret: The image is a little dark and neutral to show the dimness and equal tones of both the models emotions and the background. It was taken outdoors in the field.
Judge: I did not really have a planned model, and so I used her because she was already with me while we were looking for a location.Overall, I think that i could have done a better job with the picture location.

Critique of Portfolio

I think that I should get C for my portfolio because half of my work is really good, but the rest is really bad and I can definitely improve on them. I think that a little bit of my work is strong enough to be included in the portfolio, but I think that I can do a better job with some of the images after my teacher saw my pictures and was able to comment on them. In order to improve my pictures in my portfolio, I would need a more variety of masks because it feels like I have been using the same ones over and over again. I also feel that I should shoot more emotional shots because right now I feel that some of my pictures do not convey meaning at all.

In order to improve my portfolio, I think I need to learn more variety of lighting shots because I feel like my pictures are lacking the lighting and sometimes it is in a bad place. I also need to learn how to shoot more angled shots because a lot of my pictures are up close and the angles are kind of awkward. It makes my model look different and not what I wanted to convey.

I think I'll need a lot more time to shoot my pictures to get the right meaning across because I've been shooting outside of school non-stop, and I still cannot get the right shot of what I'm trying to convey. The resources I would need to complete the work is the black/white background, more masks, the strobe and hot lights.

Overall, I think that I'll be able to finally capture the images behind the mask after shooting lots of pictures until the end of this next semester or until the portfolio is due. I am kind of afraid that I won't be able to finish my images in time, and not graduate, but I hope that I can finally shoot those images with no fear after learning more techniques of lighting and angles from Ms. Miles.

Portfolio- Behind the mask lies a different person

There is that dark side in each person wearing a mask.

Even though the beauty outside is perfect, their personality inside is cruel and ugly, like the mask.

Looking at ones self in the mirror lies another person.

Unveiling the mask lies their true self.

Every child also has a different personality in different environments.

This 6 weeks I actually thought I was shooting a lot of pictures, yet I wasn't able to capture many meaningful pictures like I wanted to from the beginning. I shoot 2 times a week and I was not able to capture those pictures, but I hope that before we present our portfolios to the panel, I would finally be happy with my photos and capture the right emotions and feelings that I wanted to capture behind the mask. I really need to improve on capturing the right light and editing the pictures fairly well because everytime I use photoshop, it is very difficult for me to do it. At first I wanted to capture images that are everyday, like the child who is in a playground wearing a mask to show that each person is wearing a mask in different environment, but then I realized it was too complicated so I started to shoot people wearing masks in general. I sometimes shot inside the studio and outside/inside my house. Overall, I think that these next few weeks I can improve on this and capture the right images that I wanted.

Aline Smithson

I decided to choose the photographer Aline Smithson as my influence for my Senior Portfolio. She has very interesting pictures using masks in his photos consistently and I want to capture the same images she produces. Many of her work includes people wearing masks and the images that are taken feels that they all have meaning to them. I want to capture the feeling that people are feeling behind the mask in certain environments. Who is really behind that mask?

House Project

Describe: In this house project, I see plants, a closet, a messy bunk bed, dirty ground, a faucet, a lawnmower, dirty dishes, boots, magnets, and wheels. The pictures are either inside or outside the house and the pictures are mostly messy and ugly. The color of the house is green on two sides, blue on the next two far side, and dirty brown in the middle. The plant, faucet, and lawnmower picture are on the green background while the closet, dirty ground, magnets, and wheels are in the blue background because they are inside the house making it somewhat darker, but not too dark. The dishes, boots, and the messy bunk bed is in the brown background because the pictures are brown colored and it matches it perfectly. I added some quotes around the house and words inside the pictures. It is an abstract photo with shapes and lines in the pictures to create composition.

Analyze: By following the rule of thirds, I was able to make an ugly, dirty object into a beautiful picture with the use of lighting. The tones of the pictures are either light and messy because they are all the things that are messy around the house and are the objects that bothered me. Some of the pictures have a blurry background, so that you can focus more on the picture that is focused.

Interpret: Some of the images are either light or dark to create a feeling of messiness, ugliness, and have its own beauty. I wanted to show that in the ugliness and messiness of all these objects, they have their own beauty with the proper lighting and the right angle of the shot. By looking at the objects without a specific lighting and angle, the object does not seem so great, but by looking at it at other point of views such as low or high, it made the objects seem beautiful.

Judge: I think that my house was not very successful at all. I thought that I did alright, but I feel that I could do better because at first, I didn't know that we were suppose to edit the pictures. I thought that we were suppose to take pictures of the most ugliest things and print them out and put them on the house. Also, I was not told to not put the pictures right in the middle. I feel that if I could start this project over, I would and would do a better job. If I did know that we could edit the pictures a little better with more effect, I would have done so. Overall, I guess my house turned out alright. It is not the best, but at least I tried my best at making it.
